Here at St. Mary’s School, fostering the wellbeing of our students, staff and entire school community is central to everything that we do.  We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment that is essential for optimising learning, development and overall success.

Our school is a place where every individual is valued, respected and included.  We recognise and appreciate the unique strengths and talents that each person brings to our community.  In St. Mary’s we maintain a nurturing environment where children can feel free to express themselves.  We have a democratically appointed Student Council that meets weekly to discuss the needs of the school as a whole.  We encourage positive and respectful relationships among students, staff and parents.

As well as being a Health Promoting School, the school community come together for many activities that encourage physical and mental wellbeing, teamwork and creativity.  Children can choose from a varied list including gardening, singing, ukulele lessons, art, walking, chess, swimming and soccer.

Mindfulness is an important skill to be developed for all children.  As well as work in class, our sensory gardens, sensory room and chill out spaces give children a chance to relax, to regulate and contribute to a holistic approach to development.

Overall, our goal in St. Mary’s is to work cooperatively and collaboratively together.  Overseeing everything is our long-term objective to instil in the students, independent skills of resilience and self-regulation that will stand with them for their whole lives.
